Your Photos & Online Services
Connie August 19th, 2007
As online photo services shift & change, it’s important for you to be able to move your photos & possibly even back them up online at another site. I rec’d a few emails from Yahoo! photos about their decision to close that service in favor of Flickr.
It made this article by Lifehacker quite pertinent. They provide information about Migratr, a freeware app for moving your photos & metadata from one sharing service to another.
I have about 8 yrs worth of digital photos at Shutterfly.com Unfortunately, to get them back I would need to pay for their CD burning service, but it’s a nice backup if I ever need it. And there other services are great and their unlimited storage can’t be beat!)
Where do you have most of your online photos at?

For me the most important part about online photo services is the community. That’s why I use flickr - they have a good combination of features (groups, printing services, geotagging, organizr etc.) and a really big community to share your photos with.
Unlimited photo storage (@Shutterfly) sounds nice though… but I’m afraid I’m just too lazy to convince my friends at flickr to move with me to another site… so Yahoo got my 25 $ for unlimited photo storage ;o)

Fotki.com
Wish ACDSee incorporated Fotki in some way.
Thank you Josh for making that excellent point! When I started with Shutterfly, my only purpose was to get prints made (something I’m barely doing anymore, now it’s photobooks). And now Flickr offers so much more to the user. I agree that the nominal fee is worthwhile considering all of the services offered. And there are many services now like flickr, smugmug, fotki, etc that offer the opportunity for community experiences. That’s what makes it fun!
Thanks for the suggestion Peter. ACDSee is moderating comments & reading them.

I support the idea to include fotki like a service to upload pictures from acdsee
